Why Tompkins County Wells Aren’t All the Same
Split the county roughly along a line south of Ithaca and you get two different well-drilling stories. South of that line — Caroline, Danby, Newfield, and the ridge country toward Spencer — wells are typically bored into Devonian shale and siltstone bedrock, and yield depends more on which fracture zones a well happens to hit than on depth alone.
